Seven-year-old Wen is spending a quiet vacation with her parents, Eric and Andrew, at a secluded cabin on a peaceful lake in New Hampshire. The nearest neighbors are miles away, down a bumpy dirt road.
While catching grasshoppers one afternoon, Wen notices a stranger approaching the driveway. The man, Leonard, is the biggest person she’s ever seen—but he’s warm, gentle, and quickly earns her trust.
They talk and play together until Leonard suddenly stops and, with a heavy tone, tells her, “None of what’s going to happen is your fault.” Moments later, three more strangers arrive, each carrying strange and threatening tools.
Panicked, Wen races inside to alert her dads. Leonard shouts after her: “Your dads won’t want to let us in, Wen. But they must. We need your help to save the world.”
